What is this?

This blog will serve as an agenda-free retelling of Bible stories. I'm not doing this to promote Christianity or any specific belief system. Consider this blog to be a user-friendly version of CliffNotes for the Bible.

Why am I doing this?

I've always been someone who wanted the facts about something. Wikipedia's "List of Common Misconceptions" fascinates me. There are so many things that we think we know that turn out to be objectively false. One area where I've noticed a lot of ignorance is in the realm of Biblical knowledge. Professors and academics will refer to the Bible, but their knowledge only goes so far as to recognize a literary allusion.

Why should we know anything more about the Bible?

For the same reason we study Greek or Roman mythology. The Bible is a very influential work of literature. It's my opinion that the stories told in the Bible are worth retelling, if only for their narrative value. The stories in the Bible are tragic, inspiring, and occasionally hilarious. I think it's a shame that, just because so many people use the Bible to support their own theological purposes, we miss out on the great stories. You don't have to believe in the truth of the Bible to enjoy its stories, just as you don't have to believe in Poseidon to enjoy The Odyssey.

That being said, these stories will not be told in a "PC" manner. I refuse to clutter my writing with words like "supposedly" or "was said to have happened." These stories will be written in he style of any academic retelling. Noah did this, Joseph did that, Paul went here, in the same way that Hercules did this, Zeus said that, or Odysseus went here.

Once again, this site is for entertainment, not theology. I'll be consulting multiple versions of the Bible and doing my best to not add or subtract anything from the stories. I want to give the most accurate picture possible of what happened in the story.
